A week of discovery around Kalbarri

It was lovely to have friends join us for a week around Kalbarri. None of us had explored the region before, so there was plenty of shared stopping, pointing and wondering what we were looking at.
The iron-rich sandstone was a constant interest. Inland it formed the gorges; on the coast, ledges, holes and overhangs made the rock worth looking at closely as well as from a distance. The sea gave it all another set of colours.
The smaller living things were just as busy. On one memorable walk near Red Bluff, every shrub seemed thick with moths, butterflies, bees and flies, while dragonflies filled the air above them. An extraordinary amount of activity in a stretch of coastal scrub.
The fly nets were firmly established as essential equipment. We could appreciate the insect life very happily from behind a small layer of mesh.
These photos keep a bit of everything: banksias and flowers, coastal walks, textured rock, shared meals and friends enjoying a place that was new to all of us.
