A coastline that moves with the tide

A polished oyster shell at Lombadina.

The tides on the Dampier Peninsula gave us an entirely different sense of the shoreline. Around our visit, the difference between low and high water was about eight metres. The beach could change character while we were sitting on it.

One patch of incoming water briefly became what we called a seagull spa bath. It was entertaining to watch, until the rising tide made higher ground the more appealing place to be. At another stop, we parked near the water as it was going out and found ourselves with a decent walk back to the sea a couple of hours later.

The collection also includes a beautifully polished oyster shell at the Lombadina Arts Store, and Andy learning about cultured pearl oysters at Cygnet Bay.

Big tides outside, careful work inside the shells: quite a lot to take in along this stretch of coast.
